The Role: Workshop Engineer
As part of our continuous efforts to improve engineering efficiency, we are looking for a highly motivated to lead from the front and make an impact in the Workshop operations. The successful candidate will manage engineering activities within the workshop, ensuring the efficient repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of mining equipment and components, while ensuring high standards of safety, quality and productivity while minimizing equipment downtime. This role ensures equipment reliability, compliance with OEM standards, and customer satisfaction through timely service delivery. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and experience in leading teams in engineering activities in a similar environment.
Key Performance Areas:
- Oversee daily operations & work of Artisans in the remanufacturing and engineering services workshop.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance and repair activities in the workshop.
- Liaise with Procurement and Stores to ensure availability of parts and materials
- Maintain accurate records of work orders and component history.
- Plan and monitor repair/refurbishment of mining components (e.g., hydraulic cylinders, gearboxes, pumps).
- Conduct root cause analysis and failure investigations.
- Lead, coach, and mentor workshop technicians and apprentices.
- Drive skills development and ensure training compliance with Sandvik standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
- Enforce Sandvik’s SHEQ policies and statutory health & safety requirements.
- Ensure safe working practices and conduct regular safety audits.
- Implement quality control measures and improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support and recommendations for customers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and ensure high-quality service delivery to meet customer expectations.
Your Profile:
- Degree in Mechanical, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a heavy equipment or mining equipment workshop.
- 2 – 3 years supervisory experience in a heavy equipment or mining equipment workshop.
- Sound knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and diesel engines
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions based on available data.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support project activities.
