The Job entails being responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing large Sandvik machinery, vehicles, and equipment typically used in mining and construction industry.

The Heavy Equipment Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems on heavy mining and construction equipment. This role ensures operational reliability, compliance with Sandvik’s safety standards, and supports continuous improvement in equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Maintenance & Repair
    • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on heavy equipment such as drills, loaders, crushers, and hydraulic systems.
    • Install and maintain electrical components including motors, sensors, starters, alternators, and control panels.
    • Use diagnostic tools and electronic service software to identify and resolve fault codes.
  • Preventive Maintenance
    • Conduct scheduled inspections and servicing to minimize downtime.
    • Maintain accurate records of electrical repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Adhere to Sandvik’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System.
    • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and ensure all protective devices are in place before operation.
    • Prohibit work under impaired judgment (fatigue, substances) as per company safety manuals.
  • Technical Documentation
    • Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical manuals.
    • Prepare inspection reports, breakdown reports, and electrical test documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Heavy Equipment Electrical Systems.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in heavy equipment electrical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage systems, PLC controls, and diagnostic tools.
  • Valid driver’s license for site work.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team under challenging conditions.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and heavy equipment operational hazards.
  • Physical stamina and ability to handle demanding tasks.
