System Engineer

The position is in Sandvik’s Turku site which is the cutting-edge product development and manufacturing center for our Load and Haul equipment. Our mission is to advance the world through engineering. Do you share our mission?

In this role, you’ll dive headfirst into the electrifying world of electric and battery-powered vehicles. You’ll have the chance to work partially remotely, however occasional travel and presence is required in our division headquarters in Turku. Your primary areas of responsibility

You will play a crucial role in defining features for control systems. Your work will directly impact the performance and functionality of our Diesel-electric and battery-powered vehicles. You’ll collaborate closely with the Software Development team and other internal stakeholders, including the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical teams.

Your work includes the following:

  • Produce detailed engineering-level control systems functional specifications. Focus primarily on Diesel-electric and battery-powered vehicles.
  • Provide hands-on support during prototype development and testing.
  • Maintain knowledge of machines embedded CAN based control systems as well as electric and battery related systems.

Your background

  • Hold a suitable degree in an engineering discipline e.g., Automation, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
  • You may have already gained more experience in your engineering career, or you are just starting out.
  • Previous experience in an agile development environment.
  • Familiarity with modular software development within the SW platform.
  • Knowledge of electric powertrains with embedded control systems is beneficial.
  • In this position you are not responsible, but you may contribute to software development, debugging and testing. Control system software is created using CoDeSys (IEC 61131-3), C++, Qt and QML programming languages, hence experience is seen as advantage.
  • Motivated, hands-on attitude and keenness to work with machines and control systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Approach tasks proactively and systematically and solve complex problems related to control systems.
  • Fluent in English and Finnish.
  • Occasional travel may be required for collaboration and project-related activities.
