Product Manager

At our Underground Drilling division, we are now looking for an experienced Product Manager for selected products to lead our journey towards more intelligent drilling automation, digitalized product offering and more sustainable future via electrification. This global position offers the unique possibility to set your fingerprint on the technological industry standards and best practices in underground mining. The role is permanent and based in Tampere, Finland.

The Underground Drilling division within Business area Mining is an industry leading global provider of drilling equipment for underground mining and tunneling industry with focus on technology development and future innovative solutions to enable sustainable operations for our customers. Sandvik Mining and Construction Oy’s Tampere site is a global technology and manufacturing center for Underground Drilling equipment.

Your mission

As Product Manager your priority will be to understand customer needs and industry trends in both short- and long-term perspectives. You need to convert these into clear product vision and offering strategies technically and commercially. This will be the basis for the product and project requirements set for the engineering and technology development organizations. Furthermore, you will act as a business case owner and project sponsor for the new product and system development activities within your product line. You oversee the selected products over the full lifecycle and ensure competitiveness, profitability, market fit, superior quality and uncompromised safety. Finally, you will lead co-operation between different stakeholders by ensuring great collaboration, challenging and prioritizing the work across teams, functions, borders, and with external partners to shape the future of our industry together.

Your main responsibilities

Technical and commercial ownership of the selected products during their full lifecycle starting from the product vision to product ramp down
Proactively collecting and understanding customer needs and industry trends including competitor monitoring and analysis of the competitive landscape
Create, develop and maintain the product portfolio and future roadmap, specifications,
presentations, costing and pricing in various IT systems ensuring those are aligned throughout the offering
Initiate, define requirements and sponsor new product development projects
Define customer segments including value proposition and key selection criteria of the products
Secure product level profitability for existing and new products through the Value Engineering and Target Costing approaches
Technical and commercial support for selected strategic customer sales opportunities
Prepare and conduct product training and other product presentations
Collaborate and lead across different teams, internally and externally

Your background and what we find important

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and customer focused leader with a commercial mindset. You have experience in managing complex offerings or project portfolios and have demonstrated good leadership skills. You possess great collaboration and presentation skills and previous experience of working within the mining industry is considered beneficial but not mandatory. With education you hold a university degree preferably within the area of technical or business studies. Travelling is a natural part of your job.

You must have a positive and energetic mindset, and you enjoy working in an international business environment. Your solid hands-on capabilities to work with different stakeholders, such as customers, sales & marketing, R&D and engineering, finance and supply chain ensure success in this role.
