The Software Engineer performs design tasks and technical solutions in his/her assigned area of responsibility based on the priorities set by the immediate supervisor.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain top-of-the-art automation modules and machine control software for drill rigs.

  • Plan development schedule/content for assigned automation modules.

  • Work in compliance with the Sandvik safety management program.

  • Maintain technical coordination and support with the Automation team and other departments, including, but not limited to, Product Safety, Production, Sourcing, Sales, and Technical Services.

  • Contribute to maintaining a team-working environment according to Sandvik Core Values.

  • Follow the Design & Development strategic plan as prioritized by the Software Engineering Supervisor and as communicated in performance objectives.

  • Provide support and collaborate with other departments, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in Computer Science or related engineering field.

Experience: 2-3 years of practical experience in Machine Control Software Development.

Required Skills / Competencies:

  • 2 years of C++ experience.

  • 2 years of machine control software experience

  • Demonstrated ability to write robust and maintainable code using modern C++.

  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.

  • Familiarity with the full software lifecycle, from specification to maintenance.

  • Experience in designing software modules and software architecture.

  • Demonstrated deep understanding of Linux real-time systems (some understanding of Windows environment).

  • Working knowledge of version control systems (Git and SVN)

  • Hands-on experience with software build systems.

  • Knowledgeable with agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban)

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently

  • Teamwork and clear communication skills

  • Self-starter able to work independently or on teams to get the work product completed on time and budget.

  • Continual learner; keeps abreast of current state-of-the-art technologies and trends in automation and suggests product improvement ideas.

Nice To Have Skills / Competencies

  • Programming experience with Qt, QML, Python, C, IEC 61131-3 (CodeSys), Matlab (Simulink)

  • Build system experience (CMake)

  • Experience with using Jenkins

  • Experience with using Polarion

  • Worked with CAN (CANopen and J1939) and Ethernet (REST and UDP) networks

  • Application lifecycle management experience (Polarion)

  • Experience with Azure

  • Experience with data analytics

  • Relevant internship or co-op experience in the field
