The role

As a valued member of our regional Legal Support team, the Legal Counsel will play a key role in providing trusted legal advice to Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions Business Area. This role supports the business in alignment with our global Business Area and Group policies and procedures, helping to ensure we operate with integrity and excellence across all activities.

Areas of responsibility

  • Advise on, negotiate, and draft a wide range of commercial contracts, including sales, procurement, real estate, construction, and confidentiality agreements, ensuring alignment with Sandvik’s global policies.
  • Support the roll-out of global sales templates, training initiatives, and the Commercial Approval System across the SMR Sales Areas.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on material Sales and Purchase Agreements, Distribution Agreements, Framework Agreements, and corporate governance matters.
  • Manage disputes and litigation (including ADR processes) across the region, coordinate with external counsel, and assist in global dispute resolution and intellectual property matters.
  • Advise on employment law matters including hiring, contracts, benefits, terminations, and redundancies, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the execution of Sales Area Compliance Plans, maintain insurance compliance across contracts, and proactively update legal precedents and templates.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior management and internal stakeholders, deliver training, and communicate risks, opportunities, and compliance updates to contribute directly to business success.

Your profile

You are a degree-qualified lawyer (LLB or equivalent), admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia, and hold a current Australian practicing certificate. You bring 4–7 years’ post-admission experience gained in a common law jurisdiction, ideally from a top-tier law firm or the in-house legal function of a multinational company.

Your background includes working within the mining, resources, construction, engineering, or manufacturing sectors, although high-calibre experience from other industries will also be considered favourably. You have a proven track record of advising significant corporations across a broad range of legal matters, and you are skilled in managing external legal resources in a cost-effective manner.

You have first-class technical legal skills, coupled with strong commercial acumen and the ability to pragmatically assess risk and deliver solutions that are both legally sound and commercially viable. You are comfortable switching between the roles of legal advisor and business partner, offering clear and actionable advice.
