Spray Painter

We are looking for a focused and hard-working individual to join our team as a Spray Painter.

The role will report into the Drives Manager and will be based from our offices in Spartan, Kempton Park.

Purpose of the role:

  • To set-up, operate and tend to equipment that apply paint finishes and protective coating to our products using a manual spray gun or automated equipment.

The job responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting up the spray equipment.
  • To ensure that all the materials are mixed correctly to obtain the right colour and consistency.
  • To correctly prepare the surfaces to be covered (washing and masking).
  • Engage in sanding of surfaces where required.
  • Responsible to apply primer coat, main coat followed by the finish.
  • Responsible to properly check the finished job as part of quality control.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and maintaining of spray equipment.
  • Identify and resolve problems related to paint application, surface treatment and quality aspects.
  • Ensure that instructions are fully understood.
  • Ensure that working area is clean and neat and free of safety hazards within required limits.
  • Responsible to execute tasks given by the Supervisor in the correct way to ensure adherence to the expected standards set by the Company.
  • Responsible to stay within the allowable hours per job given by Management and to put steps in place to mitigate any over run on hours due to breakdowns or other work stoppages.
  • Responsible to check the quality of the completed work prior handing it over.
  • Responsible to give clear instructions to your team members and co-workers.
  • Responsible to maintain and repair mechanical equipment where possible and to report any faulty equipment to your Manager.
  • Responsible to take care of all equipment issued and used by you.
  • Responsible to maintain good housekeeping in your work areas on a continuous basis.
  • Responsible to provide guidance and expert advice to co-workers on technical related topics.
  • Responsible to coach and develop or otherwise help others in working environment.
  • Responsible to operate within the health and safety requirements prescribed by Kwatani and OHSAct and to report any accident, injury or near miss that could have resulted in an accident to your Foreman.
  • Responsible to operate overhead cranes within the safety parameters.
  • Responsible to operate forklift within the safety parameters.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • 3-5 years' experience in the painting of manufactured metal components obtained in a metal industry operation.
  • Practical experience in painting techniques and industrial painting requirements is essential.
