Purpose of job:

We are seeking a proactive Automation Engineer to provide quality technical support in the sales areas, on mine sites and remotely, and participate in commissioning of automation projects. Follow defined commissioning timelines for projects and provide effective solutions to technical problems based on systematic failure analysis; this will involve capturing information from automation products and services, along with reporting and feedback to customers of findings and recommendations. Assist customers in driving cost efficiencies and capital profit through good leadership, string customer relations and best practice Safety, Health and Environment effectiveness. As part of the technical team, the position will be responsible for presenting training to internal and external customers.


Key Responsibilities Include


  • Provide OEM product support to customers through the establishment of effective management systems
  • Management effective cost budget through initiating cost reduction measures while maintaining quality and environmentally safe and healthy practices
  • Develop and administer effective maintenance practices that will ensure fleet availability and reliability per contract terms
  • Take responsibility for Environment, Health & Safety performance and management
  • Provide technical support to end-users, operators and service personnel in cases of complex product and service offering
  • Ensure personal and career development of subordinates
  • Develop customer relationships and ensure customers have positive experience and remain loyal to the Sandvik Brand
  • Investigate warranty claims proactively and reactively to enhance customer satisfaction and provide feedback to respective factories
  • Provide technical training to the service network on proper operation, maintenance and troubleshooting practices
  • Liaise with Technical and Product support team
  • Adhere to all SMRT Policies and Procedures especially the SHEQ policies

Qualification


  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or good Trade Background with relevant equipment technical experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Acquired knowledge in Aumation operations in both surface and underground.
  • Strong business sense and EHS focus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and people management skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and other MS office applications.
  • Experience with the SAP or other ERP systems is helpful.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary and provide guidance to members of the team.
  • Must be a smart worker who is self-motivated, performance-based outcomes orientated and needs no supervision.
  • Good problem-solving and investigative abilities.
  • Good commercial awareness and awareness of aftermarket opportunities.
  • Good planning and organization.
  • Familiarity with the regions of West Africa that are traveled.
  • Strong ability to operate effectively under pressure and deal with emergency breakdowns.
