Production Engineer( Opex & Production Supervisor)
Department: SMRT IPL - Assembly center
Reports To: Head – Production, OPEX & Warehouse
Location: Assembly Center, Dapodi, Pune
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe working practices and compliance with EHS guidelines.
- Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions in the system.
- Promote safety awareness and tool-box talks among operators
- Ensure timely closure of safety actions and corrective measures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on:
- Assembly hour reduction
- Cost optimization
- Productivity improvement
- Waste elimination
- Track and report improvement ideas, Kaizens, and E-Kaizens.
- Lead & Participate in Gemba walks and improvement workshops.
- Ensure First-Time-Right (FTR) assembly and reduction of rework and defects.
- Analyze defects per unit (DPU), customer complaints.
- Support standardization and best practice implementation across models.
- Support digital SOP creation, updates, and implementation.
- Support training, skill enhancement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Plan and allocate manpower for WIP units as per the production schedule.
- Ensure assembly of Crushing, Screening & Mining equipment as per approved BOM, MO, drawings, and SOPs.
- Monitor daily production progress, cycle time and adherence to targets.
- Ensure completion of all loose parts and sub-assemblies along with machine completion.
- Coordinate MHE (EOT cranes, forklifts) for shifting, loading, and assembly activities.
- Handle in-house rework, ECN implementation, and long-storage inspections.
- Conduct initial investigation of assembly issues using drawings, BOM, MO, and SOPs.
- Coordinate with PDC, Engineering, Quality, and CFT teams for issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
- Monitor audit points, inspection findings, and corrective actions.
- Follow up with Warehouse for material availability and shortages.
- Ensure correct issuance and consumption of materials as per picklists.
- Arrange tools, tackles, fixtures, and consumables; raise PRs as required.
- Coordinate with indirect suppliers for tools, fixtures, and improvement solutions.
- Ensure daily reporting of production hours and progress in ERP.
- Track MO status, shortages, and deviations in the system.
- Guide, train, and motivate operators and technicians.
- Monitor attendance, skill levels, and performance of team members.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Warehouse, Painting, Quality, Sales, and Service teams.

Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering
- 6–10 years of experience in assembly of heavy equipment (Crushing & Screening preferred)
- Strong understanding of assembly processes, drawings, BOMs, and quality standards
