Master Thesis: Cone crusher control

Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology, a business area within the Sandvik Group, offers a thesis project in the area of crushing control for cone crushers.

Business area Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Application areas include, for example, rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling, and materials handling.

The focus lies on bringing value to customers through high-performing products that increase productivity and safety as well as to provide services and flexible maintenance programs that extend uptime and cut costs.

Background and purpose

The site in Svedala, Sweden is Sandvik's global competence center for stone crushing and screening equipment. The site has about 450 employees and covers the whole business, from management, R&D and production to marketing, sales and aftermarket services.

At the Svedala site, Sandvik develops and manufactures stone crushers in different dimensions. The purpose of this thesis project is to improve the behavior of the crushing control for cone crushers from an automation perspective.

Work description

  • Create a simulator of the crushing process that will be used for validation of control algorithm.
  • Develop theoretical control algorithm.
  • Implement control algorithm in Sandvik's automation platform for crushers.

The assignment will be driven within the global R&D department for stationary crushing and screening.

Extent

The work consists of 30 credits (weeks) and is planned to start during the first quarter of 2021.

The location for this position is Svedala, Sweden.

Student background

We are looking for a Master’s student with a relevant background, preferably in mechatronics, automation or electrical engineering.
