Senior Engineer - Materials Management

Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Our application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, crushing, and screening, loading, and hauling, tunnelling, quarrying, and breaking and demolition. To our Rock Tools division and the Production Unit in Patancheru, we are now looking for a Senior Engineer – Materials Management to join us.

Your scope:

Responsible for end‑to‑end materials planning, procurement, subcontracting, and warehouse management, ensuring right‑time availability of materials at optimal cost. The role leverages SAP S/4HANA MM and EWM/WM to deliver efficient, compliant, and high‑quality material flows across procurement, warehousing, production, and subcontractors—aligned with organizational, financial, and operational objectives.

To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are:

  • Ensure strict adherence to Sandvik EHS standards across all materials management activities.
  • Comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, SMRT procedures, and Group Internal Controls.
  • Manage procurement of all direct materials (domestic/imports), including complete PR‑to‑PO execution in SAP S/4HANA.
  • Lead import operations: freight coordination, customs clearance, legal documentation, and compliance.
  • Conduct cost analysis, total landed cost evaluations, and drive annual cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, price finalization, and contract renewals to secure favourable supply terms.
  • Maintain accurate supplier master data—Info Records, Source Lists, Quota Arrangements, PIRs & Scheduling Agreements.
  • Plan, monitor, and control material issues to subcontractors, ensuring adherence to contracts, processing rates, GST compliance, and statutory documentation.
  • Track and reconcile subcontracting inventory, consumption, and returns.
  • Manage Goods Receipt, Goods Issue, put-away, picking, HU management, and bin-level accuracy.
  • Execute warehouse operations using EWM/WM including RF-driven processes (where applicable).
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels, minimize shortages, and support production continuity.
  • Control OSMI, conduct cycle counts, and support regular stock audits.
  • Execute material planning and align parameters with Planning, Production, Engineering, Quality & Finance.
  • Coordinate engineering changes (ECNs) to reduce obsolescence and supply disruptions.
  • Identify supply risks (shortages, quality issues, logistics delays) and implement contingency plans.
  • SAP S/4HANA Operations
  • Configure, execute, and troubleshoot MM & EWM/WM transactions and master data.
  • Identify SAP process gaps and drive improvements for better data accuracy and performance.
  • Partner with PP, FI, Production, Planning, and global supply chain sourcing teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Generate KPIs on procurement, subcontracting, inventory levels, schedule adherence, and supplier performance using SAP/Excel/Power BI.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, process documentation, and audit‑ready records.
  • Participate in daily/weekly/monthly operations reviews and contribute to decision‑making.

Your profile:

Our candidate should have minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in Materials Management, Purchasing, Vendor Management, and SAP S/4HANA MM/EWM/PP in a manufacturing engineering environment.

A Graduate Engineer within Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering is required. You have previously worked with strong EHS cultured organizations, and you understand the importance of a diverse workforce and collaborative settings

Competencies that we find necessary are:

  • Hands-on experience in the domain of direct procurement, subcontracting, warehouse operations, and logistics.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes in engineering industries, including Forging, machining, heat treatment, and subcontracting, with expertise in discrete manufacturing.
  • Deep knowledge in metals and other materials, including steel sourcing, including alloy steel classification, manufacturing routes, heat planning, and procurement.
  • Deep knowledge of imports, customs regulations, GST, freight rules, and statutory documentation.
  • Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA MM, EWM/WM & PP, including MRP, inventory control, BOM management, and component staging.
  • Strong capability in planning and procurement strategies, risk mitigation, and dynamic supply chain management.
  • Advanced skills in cost analysis, benchmarking, and total cost evaluation.
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI, and planning/scheduling tools for analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
