Mechanical Engineer - Universal Field Robots
Universal Field Robots - A Sandvik Company
Mechanical Engineer – Eagle Farm, Qld
About the opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to design and integrate advanced automation solutions for heavy machinery typically in the mining industry. You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical design process, from concept development and CAD modelling to prototyping, testing, and deployment. You’ll work on mechanical systems that support perception, control, and autonomous navigation, collaborating closely with robotics and software teams.
Responsibilities:
·Design robust attachments along with mechanical systems that support perception, control, and autonomous navigation technologies.
·Develop detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications.
·Perform detailed engineering analysis to ensure reliability and performance in harsh environments.
·Support the full product lifecycle, including design reviews, documentation, manufacturing, deployment and ongoing support.
·Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems with electronics, sensors, and software.
·Understand customer and project requirements.
·Support the installation and assembly phase of prototype components and parts. Evaluate the QA/QC process on new designs.
·Collaborate effectively with product managers and cross-functional teams, in a fast-paced and agile environment.
You’ll play a key role in delivering scalable, safe, and high-performance mechanical solutions, applying modern engineering practices and tools. This role includes periodic domestic and international travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and support.
About you:
You are a passionate Mechanical Design Engineer with 3–4 years of post‑graduate industry experience, bringing a strong foundation in designing and developing complex mechanical systems.
Experience within the heavy vehicle and/or fabrication industry is highly desirable, particularly where designs must perform reliably in harsh, dynamic operating environments.
You have hands‑on experience taking designs from concept through to deployment and enjoy working at the intersection of mechanical design, system integration, and field application. You are comfortable collaborating closely with electronics, software, and robotics engineers to deliver robust and practical solutions.
You thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment, are motivated by solving real‑world engineering challenges, and are keen to contribute to the development of safe, scalable, and high‑performance autonomous systems operating in mining and heavy industrial settings.
Agencies need not apply.
To be eligible for this role, you must have the right to live and work in Australia. Please note that as part of our recruitment process, you will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment medical.
