Exciter Service Technician

Position Overview:

The Exciter Service Technician is responsible for the disassembly, assembly, testing, and refurbishment of exciters used in vibrating screens and feeders, ensuring compliance with Sandvik Manufacturing Specifications (SMS). This role supports both workshop and field operations, delivering high-quality technical service, contributing to inventory management, and driving continuous improvement initiatives aligned with safety, quality, and productivity targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Workshop Operations

  • Carry out production activities including exciter disassembly, refurbishment, and reassembly.
  • Perform exciter phasing and vibration motor fitting per manufacturing procedures.
  • Build and test equipment using factory acceptance testing (FAT) methods.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and identify parts accurately.
  • Maintain and operate mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on tools and workshop equipment.

Inventory & Program Management

  • Manage the Exciter Refurbishment Program, ensuring stock accuracy and availability.
  • Assist with screening and crushing equipment inventory in Cleveland.
  • Participate in annual stock takes and support spare parts logistics.

Field Service & Customer Support

  • Provide onsite technical assistance for installation, diagnostics, and repair as required.
  • Support customers with parts interpretation and stock recommendations.
  • Deliver product training and troubleshooting guidance to internal teams and end-users.
  • Relay product improvement feedback to engineering teams and support warranty claim processes.

Health, Safety, and Continuous Improvement

  • Adhere to all safe work procedures and safety regulations (internal and external).
  • Participate in audits, safety meetings, incident investigations, and LEAN workshops.
  • Maintain clean and organized workspace and workshop areas.
  • Identify and report hazards and suggest safer work methods proactively.
  • Support and engage in ongoing improvement and innovation efforts.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Valid Trade Qualification (Mechanical or Hydraulic Fitter)
  • Two-year Technical Diploma in Mechanical Discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on technical experience
  • Experience with workshop or production environment, preferably in mining equipment

Preferred:

  • Forklift High Risk Work License
  • Basic Rigging High Risk License
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments and diagnostic tools

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, maintenance systems)
  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and training capabilities
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and committed to safety and quality
  • Multilingual (Spanish or French) considered an asset

Work Conditions & Special Requirements:

  • Travel to customer sites within USA/Canada as required
  • International travel for training may be required (Australia/South Africa)
  • Physically able to perform tasks in workshop and field environments
  • Adherence to all company values, safety, and operational policies
