Right now, we are looking for a Development Engineer, foremost responsible for developing automotive product and application solutions, to join our Automotive Development team currently being established in Langfang, China. You are welcome to apply for the position where you will get to take part in developing the latest machining and product solutions oriented towards the automotive industry.

Sandvik Coromant is establishing a new Automotive Development Center. The team will have strong focus on Automotive Aluminum components and especially NEV (New Electric Vehicles). Located in Langfang, China the team will work to strengthen our portfolio and offer, enabling growth at our Chinese and global customers.

The team will consist of development engineers with different areas of responsibility and technicians taking care of an all-new machine shop. Together you develop machining solution, products, take on customer projects and share know-how with internal global stakeholders and with external customers. In this position your foremost responsibility is within design, but you will also support in application development. You will work closely with Automotive customers targeting areas where we currently do not have mature solutions or offerings. You will be exposed to a high degree of collaboration, both within the team and cross function, locally in China and also globally.

Key performance areas

In this position you will work extensively in projects where you either lead or participate and always ensure timely deliveries. Day-to-day tasks will be varied and dynamic, below areas showcase a selection of the key performance areas for this position.

  • Customer Projects

    • Analyze customers technical needs in order to devise suggested solutions.

    • Actively engage with sales, customers and end-users, promoting and finding suitable customer cases for the team to take on as projects.

    • Visit customers or end-users as required to fully understand needs/objectives, present project solutions and support implementation as needed.

  • Product development

    • Design, develop, validate and bring new product offerings to market.

    • Utilize CAD/CAM to model new designs and produce detailed engineering documentation.

    • Execute verification testing ensuring specification of demand is meet.

    • Collaborate with internal partners (design, manufacturing, product specialists) to optimize ability to manufacture.

  • Application development:

    • Support in reviewing and improving methods, tools and processes within the Automotive portfolio of products and applications.

    • Support in exploring, identifying and developing new application areas as well as developing existing ones.

    • Support utilizing CAM to model and ensure tool-paths.

Your profile

We are looking for a creative team player with both design and application capabilities. You have a minimum of 5 years experience with strong knowledge and expertise relevant to the Automotive industry. You have good knowledge of design and machining applications as well as product development processes and methods. You hold a University degree within engineering or have extensive and relevant experience (minimum of 10 years). As you will operate in an international environment, your English and communication skills shall be excellent.

Further, you are result oriented, function well in a team-environment, are self-motivated and proactive. Your analytical skillset and ability to solve problems will be an assets in this position, as is your ability to make decisions and communicate to colleagues and stakeholders.
