Sandvik in India
In 1956, just nine years after independence, the Government of India invited Sandvik in Sweden to set up a cemented-carbide manufacturing factory in India. Subsequently, Sandvik commenced its operations India in 1960, becoming the Group's maiden venture in the Asian continent.
Over the following years, Sandvik established itself as a close partner to India’s industrialization and technological development through its contributions in many core sectors of the economy. Currently, the Company operates through manufacturing units that are located in, for example, Pune, Mehsana, Hosur, Hyderabad and Chiplun.
Today, with a talent pool of over 3,500 employees, Sandvik is committed to partnering India in its next phase of economic growth and development. As a further commitment to India, the Board of Sandvik AB has recently approved a fresh capital infusion to commence development of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing and Group R&D facility at Chakan, which is part of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Industrial Park, near Pune. The large-scale, world-class manufacturing facility will have the capability to manufacture multiple products catering to our different lines of business as well as house a world-class Group R&D Center.
