In 2021 Sandvik has signed agreements to acquire several companies in strategic growth areas such as software, round tools and mining equipment.

Kwatani

When: May 7
Where: South Africa
What: A leading supplier of screens and feeders for the mining industry. Kwatani reported about 150 employees and revenue of USD 20 million in 2020.

Kwatani’s offering of large vibrating screens and feeders for the mining industry is in line with our strategy to strengthen our capabilities in comminution and will further accelerate our growth within rock processing.

Tricon Drilling Solutions

Where: Australia
What: A privately owned supplier of rock tools for the mining industry. Tricon is based in Perth and has 24 employees.

What: A leading company within CAD/CAM software for manufacturing industries. Cambrio is headquartered in Ohio and has 375 employees. In 2020 the company reported revenue of USD 68 million.

Cambrio will enable a broadened customer offering, covering more of the total manufacturing value chain.

DSI Underground

Where: Germany
What: A market-leading underground safety solutions company. The acquisition is one of the biggest in Sandvik history.

DWFritz Automation

Where: USA
What: A leading global provider of precision metrology, inspection and assembly solutions for advanced manufacturing. The company is headquartered in Oregon with offices in France and China. In 2020 it had 560 employees and revenue of USD 78 million.

This acquisition will not only strengthen our position but will also enable us to offer full metrology solutions to our customers, which will reduce costs and improve quality significantly in their broader value chain.

Fanar

Where: Poland
What: Manufacturer of round tools. Headquartered outside Warsaw, the company has 230 employees and reported revenue of USD 20 million in 2020.

Chuzhou Yongpu Carbide Tools

Where: China
What: Chuzhou Yongpu is a premium solid round tools company. Sandvik has acquired 67 percent of the company, with an option to buy the remainder in three years. The company had revenue of USD 46 million in 2020.

We continue to execute our growth strategy, and this acquisition is an additional step to strengthen our round tools offering.

Rocbolt Technologies

A DSI Underground joint venture.
When: August 3
Where: China, South Africa and Mongolia
What: Agreements to acquire Jennmar’s joint-venture share of Rocbolt Technologies in China, South Africa and Mongolia. Jennmar will continue to be a joint-venture partner in Australia. The three joint ventures reported revenues of USD 95 million in 2020.

Mastercam

CNC Software Inc.

When: August 25, completed September 30
Where: USA
What: A leading provider of CAD/CAM software solutions for manufacturing industries and the company behind Mastercam. An independent family-owned company headquartered in Connecticut, with 220 employees and revenue of USD 60 million in 2020.

CNC Software Inc. and Mastercam will be the cornerstone of our CAM portfolio.

Mathias Johansson, President of the Design & Planning Automation Division at Sandvik

Accuratech Group

When: October 5
Where: Switzerland
What: A niched medical wire forming and component manufacturer. Accuratech has about 50 employees and reported revenue of USD 8.7 million in 2020.

The medical sector is one of Sandvik Materials Technology’s defined areas of growth. Through this acquisition we are strengthening our position by adding wire forming and component manufacturing capabilities.

Gerling GmbH

Where: Germany
What: A precision tube engineering company serving multiple industries, including the fast-developing hydrogen market. Gerling GmbH is headquartered in Hörste with around 75 employees and revenue of USD 10 million in 2020.

The acquisition of Gerling is giving us capabilities to accelerate growth in innovative hydrogen solutions. We already have a successful partnership with Gerling, and we will continue to solve critical industry challenges together.

GWS Tool Group

When: November 22
Where: USA
What: An established provider of made-to-order round tools with a large exposure to the general engineering and aerospace segments. GWS is headquartered in Florida and has around 490 employees and revenue of USD 95 million in 2020.

GWS brings us complementary production capabilities and strengthens our foothold within general engineering and aerospace, while having only a limited, low-single-digit exposure to internal combustion engines.

ICAM Technologies Corporation

Where: Canada
What: A provider of innovative solutions that translate CAM data into optimized coding for guiding CNC machining operations. ICAM was founded 50 years ago in Montreal and has 27 employees and revenue of USD 3 million in 2020.

This acquisition of ICAM supports our overall business strategy and is in line with our strategic focus to further develop our offering in verification and optimization.
