Thesis project: Software development from theory to practical machining techniques

Sandvik Coromant in Sandviken, Sweden offers a thesis project within the department for digital machining and software development on subject machining theories to practical machining.

Background and scope of the project

At Sandvik Coromant we have vast experience within metal-cutting tools and machining. We have defined theories and best practices to achieve the wanted results from a workpiece to a final component. The objective of this thesis work is to transcribe these theories and best practice knowledge into a machine-interpretable format that makes it possible to implement them into software.

Work description

These machining methods or strategies are described in different human-readable formats. The purpose of this work is to develop a process or working method for gathering data and theories around different strategies and translating these into a machine-readable format, a software.

Another part of the work is to practically perform this collection of data and translation to test and verify the developed process and ultimately the result from the software.
