Master Thesis: Automatization of core box production
Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology, a business area within the Sandvik Group, offers a thesis project in the area of automatization of a production process in one of the workshops at the site in Svedala, Sweden.
Business area Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Application areas include, for example, rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling, and materials handling.
The focus lies on bringing value to customers through high-performing products that increase productivity and safety as well as to provide services and flexible maintenance programs that extend uptime and cut costs.
Background and purpose
The site in Svedala, Sweden is Sandvik's global competence center for stone crushing and screening equipment. The site has about 450 employees and covers the whole business, from management, R&D and production to marketing, sales and aftermarket services.
The core box workshop makes parts that are used in the steel casting process for inlets to the moulds. The cores are made of sand, binder and reinforcement. Today, the work is done manually with a sand-mixing machine and ovens for baking the cores.
The purpose of this thesis project is to investigate the possibilities for an automated production process for the baking of the cores.
Make a pre-study if the core box production in the steel foundry in Svedala can be fully automized. The result shall be presented in the form of a business case.
The work consists of 30 credits (weeks) and is planned to start during January 2020.
The location for this position is Svedala, Sweden.
