Project Engineer - Next Generation Automation

Sandvik AutoMine® product family is world leading solution for autonomous mining. We are currently looking for an systematic and experienced Project Engineer to join our Automation Technology Program R&D team and build the future of mining. We work with cutting edge technologies, including agile development, machine vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence and with these we at Sandvik are revolutionizing underground mining operations and processes.

You will join a team of highly qualified automation and software development professionals and your job includes a high degree of collaboration with the team and stakeholders. This position reports to the Head of Automation Technology Programs in Strategic Offering unit. The position is full-time, permanent and based in Tampere, Finland.

Your role will focus on preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned engineering projects. Your responsibilities include formulating project parameters and assigning responsibilities to the most capable employees and monitoring the project team. You will also be interacting with internal clients, interpreting their needs and requirements, and representing them to team.

Your key performance areas

We are looking for a person:

  • Performing quality control tasks on schedules, plans, and personnel performance and reporting on the project's status.

  • Cooperating and communicating with the project manager and other project participants and collaborating with senior engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability.

  • Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.

  • Developing specifications for the projects.

  • Creating frameworks to measure the project's metrics and data collection from R&D perspective especially.

  • Establishing field test methods and methods for monitoring the quality of those tests.

  • Ensuring the project's compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.

  • Having ability to work with multiple discipline projects.

Your profile

You have a relevant technical education (e.g. Master of Science) and prior experience with automation or mobile equipment development in international business environment. Experience with autonomous mobile equipment or vehicles is a great advantage. You can specify, plan and document your ideas and you have a proactive systematic and structured way of working. You are fluent in English and you have at least five years of experience in working with advanced complex projects and in both project and people management.

You can establish strong professional relationships directly with relevant stakeholders and communicate with them at all levels. You understand wider business needs and find innovative solutions to complex problems. You can work proactively and systematically in a fast-changing business environment with a strong success focus. You have willingness to travel internationally.
