Within Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions and division Rock Tools, we deliver advanced products and solutions for the mining and construction industries, and we serve customers across all continents. In line with our visions, culture and values, our ambition is to drive important shifts and advance the world through engineering, and we aim for nothing less than best in class in all our operations.

R&D Hard Materials is a development center for the next generation cemented carbide (traditionally WC/Co) rock excavation material, both for development of new material compositions and for investigating their use in rock drilling applications. Our field covers a broad range of materials development technology, and we're now looking for an R&D manager. A fantastic opportunity to join one of the world leaders in developing tools for the mining industry – where we're always ready to create the next generation's hard materials. Joining us, you become part of a brilliant, competent and supportive team – running in the hot spot of innovation and product development. Are you ready to do the shift together with us? It's exciting times to jump on board!

About the job

As Hard Materials R&D Manager for all our product lines, you're responsible for implementing the organization's R&D strategy by managing research and developing activities to solve problems and improve our products, systems, and processes. You're coaching and leading a group of highly trained and capable professionals to ensure the quality of the organization's research activities. As organizer and enabler, you act as the link between our stakeholders and the R&D department. In addition, you contribute by strategic planning and decision-making to ensure that our strategy is aligned with the organization's long-term visions. Handling the R&D budget, you evaluate innovative technologies and recommend the organization on proper investments. You're genuinely interested in getting to know our customers, understanding their challenges and how we can come up with solutions that exceed their expectations.

You have flexible working conditions, although your base is in Västberga, Stockholm. Some travel is normally included to meet all parts of our global business and get a deeper understanding of their needs. At Sandvik we encourage work-life balance, and the volume of travel depends on the candidates' opportunities and demands.

About you

You hold a relevant degree in Engineering or Materials Technology or have gained experience from similar positions. It’s advantageous if you have experience of working with hard material and product development. A proven track record of good leadership is a merit. You communicate fluently in English and Swedish.

We're looking for an inspiring and open-minded leader with a professional approach, someone who drives improvements, invests in people and rewards fair play. While having solid communications skills, you show responsiveness and can explain complex solutions easily and clearly. Equally important is the understanding of innovation and product development.
