Key performance areas

To undertake all processes / activities involved in the production of high quality Ready to Press (RTP) Cemented Carbide Powder. This must be achieved in a safe manner, by working to all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and Process Instructions, whilst maintaining all production targets. Cleanliness of the Plant & Equipment is critical to the success of the process.

Additionally, the Powder Operator will:

  • Inventory & Put-Away Raw Materials as required.
  • Select & Prepare Raw Materials for weighing process, including the filling of IBC’s.
  • Accurately weigh Recipes using the PLC controlled automated weighing system. Parts of this system involves manual weighing of ingredients. This process must be monitored carefully to ensure no errors occur. Put-away of unused materials after weighing & cleaning of weighing equipment between grades.
  • Using Milling Control system, Load, Run, Pulp Sample, Empty and clean Ball Mills. Clean empty weigh hoppers as loaded. The aim of this process is to homogenize and mill the raw materials using Ethanol as the milling liquid and produce high quality Powder Slurry ready for Spray Drying.
  • Prepare Spray Drier and associated equipment ready for Spraying, ensuring equipment is assembled & working correctly and that the accepted standard of cleanliness is maintained.
  • Taking the Powder Slurry from Milling, Operate, Control & Monitor the Spray Drier and associated equipment to produce the finished RTP Powder. Continuously monitor all aspects of the process and take the necessary actions required to ensure the safe running of the equipment & production of high-quality powder.
  • Perform ‘In Process’ Quality control sampling and take corrective actions based on the results to ensure powder quality complies to the specification. Document & update relevant systems. Take samples for Laboratory testing.
  • At the end of a production run, dismantle and clean equipment, ensuring the high level of cleanliness is maintained. This includes both use of the CIP equipment and manual cleaning in the washroom.
  • As required, on receipt of customer orders, prepare & pack powder ready for shipment in a timely manner.
  • General Activities Required by Manager/Leader
  • Maintain the equipment, plant and working environment to the highest standard of cleanliness, ensuring that the Sandvik Targets for Dust & Cobalt are met.
  • Undertake Preventive Maintenance activities as per directives and schedules. This includes checks on cylpebs in the mills.
  • Start and shutdown Media for all processes daily.
  • Control and Monitor Water Process Equipment if required.
  • Control and Monitor Ethanol Equipment as required.
  • Maintain relevant computer systems (eg Posst, WMS)

Your profile

2-3 years’ experience working in a mechanical or process industry. (Process is preferred eg Chemical, industry)

High School Diploma or equivalent GED
