Workshop Manager

Sandvik Mining & Rock Technology, the leading global supplier of equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining industry, currently has an opening for a Workshop Manager at the Elko, NV location.

The Workshop Manager is responsible for supervision and management of the workshop operations and employees to meet the requirements of the business and to ensure work is completed in compliance with Company quality, core values, and safety standards. This includes overseeing work orders and shop jobs to ensure successful completion. In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring workshop personnel complete accurate requisitions as required for work orders, and assigned duties in order to meet operational requirements and delivery dates.

Key responsibilities Include:


  • Manage all aspects of the workshop operation in order to meet the defined targets and initiatives
  • Participates in the development of Workshop targets
  • Develops and implements required processes to meet established targets
  • Ensures work orders are completed as required
  • Communicates with customer regarding work order status or changes
  • Assists in preparation of quotes as requested
  • Ensures conformance to company quality standards
  • Notify manager of any significant deviation from planned work
  • Recommends selection of outside contractors
  • Ensures preparation of technical publications for customer deliveries


  • Manages job cost in line with commitments
  • Controls workshop costs in line with established budget
  • Identifies and recommends any capital improvements

Customer Service

  • Informs customer of changes to planned scheduled or job costs
  • Ensures timely completion of committed jobs

People Management and Development

  • Recruits, coaches, motivates, trains, evaluates and leads team members to accomplish the goals and objectives of the workshop
  • Manages the performance and ensure compliance with company policies for all workshop personnel under their direction
  • Coach, motivate, train, evaluate and lead team members to accomplish the goals and objectives of the workshop
  • Participates in workshop and personnel scheduling and monitors and approves attendance and work hours

Technical Expertise

  • Stays current with industry, customer and product developments
  • Makes recommendations for improvement to supervisor
  • Have background and understanding of Project Management in order to execute contracts
  • Have Lean Six Sigma training for improved processes and documentation

Safety and Environment

  • Complies with SMRT safety policies and applicable government, customer or industry regulations or requirements
  • Responsibility to identify and report any unsafe work habits, workplace incidents and / or near misses

Personal Leadership

  • Ensures that all activities are carried out in accordance with Company Values and current Company Policies and Procedures
  • Actively supports community initiatives
  • Undertakes self-training and development as required

Your profile

You possess Associates Degree of College diploma in a mechanical or electrical discipline. Minimum 7 years’ experience with related industry equipment. Experience with Mining industry specific equipment, preferably underground. Business management experience preferred.
