Your mission

This is an exciting and dynamic new role based in China, where you will coordinate data privacy in China among the Sandvik Business Areas and have regular interactions with the global compliance teams. In this position you work to support our management of information regulated by relevant Chinese data protection laws, carry out regular reviews, and act as the main point of contact between Sandvik and the Chinese data protection authorities.

We’re looking for a team member with excellent organizational, communication and management skills, and with the ability to lead training sessions and workshops with members of staff. You’ll often be asked to work independently in this role, but also to communicate with relevant employees as you promote a culture of data protection compliance within the organization. You will report directly to the SMS Chief Compliance Officer based in Sweden.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the China data privacy program to continue to achieve sustainable privacy compliance across the Sandvik China Business Areas
  • Develop the data privacy strategy in China, effectively building on the Group and Business Area China data privacy program
  • Evaluate the existing data protection framework and identify areas of non or partial compliance and rectify any issues
  • Act as the primary point of contact and advisor within the China organization for members of staff, for compliance and privacy officers both at the Group and Business Area level, as well as for legal and information security colleagues
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external regulators and any other relevant public bodies on issues related to data protection
  • Ensure the company’s policies, procedures and other governing documents are in accordance with government laws and regulations and codes of practice
  • Establish operational processes and templates to meet the applicable data protection requirements
  • Develop training plans and provide data protection advice and support for members of staff
  • Proactively inform and advise the relevant colleagues on all matters related to data protection
  • Promote a culture of data protection compliance across all units of the organization
  • Be responsible for ensuring incident notification and requirements are being met in China
  • Maintain records of data privacy activities and co-ordinate in relation to audits

Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated team player and leadership skills achieving stated objectives involving a diverse set of stakeholders and managing varied projects
  • Ability to work independently in a systematic and structured way
  • Ability to take initiative and resolve problems autonomously
  • Demonstrated self-starter with ability to gain required knowledge in dynamic environments
  • Demonstrated communication skills to speak with a wide-ranging audience, from managers to IT staff and lawyers
  • Ability to find pragmatic approaches
  • Fluent English, knowledge in both spoken and written is required
