Sandvik in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Sweden

Sandvik has initiated a long-term collaboration with Engineers Without Borders Sweden and will become the organization’s main partner. The intention is to work together to develop technical sustainable solutions adapted to local competence, values and culture.

Engineers Without Borders Sweden is a non-profit and non-political organization, which operates and supports international projects based on engineering expertise. The objective is to find technical solutions to problems, adapted to local expertise, values and culture. Engineers Without Borders Sweden also works to inspire young people to become engineers.

“The new agreement with Sandvik entails support in terms of both financing and resources, which will enable us to broaden and strengthen our voluntary activities with a greater engagement on location,” says Jan Byfors, acting Chairman of Engineers Without Borders Sweden, who particularly emphasizes that Sandvik’s comprehensive international network may be highly beneficial to the collaboration.

Members of Engineers Without Borders Sweden include students, professionals and senior citizens. Activities are conducted at a national level with a number of local and student groups in towns and cities with universities or institutes of technology. Engineers Without Borders Sweden is part of the Engineers Without Borders International (EWB) network, which is represented in some 30 countries around the world.

“Through the partnership, we want to contribute to international voluntary projects. We are aiming to identify joint projects together that suit Sandvik and where we can contribute in the best possible way,” says Jessica Alm, Sandvik’s Vice President Communications.

Another important goal with the agreement is to promote the technology and engineering interest in society and to attract more to choose a technical education.

“With the collaboration, we want to harness the commitment of our employees. It will also allow us to hold lectures and student activities at universities and colleges where Engineers Without Borders, Sweden is represented, and to take part in various membership and partner meetings held by Engineers Without Borders, Sweden” continues Jessica Alm.

Engineers Without Borders, Sweden has about 1000 members in Sweden. The organization is currently conducting volunteer projects in Kenya, Tanzania, Cameroon, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, Nepal. Focus areas are energy, water, sanitation, schools and hospitals.

Engineers Without Borders, Sweden conducts operations at several of Sweden's largest technical universities, at present we are at Chalmers, Lund University of Technology (LTH), Linköping University (LiU), Luleå Technical University (LTU), Karlstad University (KAU), Uppsala University (UU) And the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
